The Research Assistant within the Psychology Department will be responsible for managing daily lab activities and scheduling with respect to recruitment and retention of participants in ongoing studies in Dr. Keith Welker's Social Processes, Affect, and Neuroendocrinology Lab (www.welkerspanlab.com).

The incumbent will be responsible for scoring psychological tests; running research participants; designing Institutional Review Board (IRB) protocols; writing feedback/debriefing letters to participants; managing research databases; testing research participants; and assisting with literature reviews and drafting manuscripts. The Research Assistant will also assist in the hiring, training and supervising of undergraduate work study students, as well as organizing work schedules and assisting in the evaluation of the work performed by the students.

Duties include, but are not limited to:

• Recruit and schedule subjects for testing, including contacting participants and families via mail and phone
• Participate in interviewing research participants, as well as collecting research data both on-and off- campus
• Score, analyze and enter research data collected as part of the study into appropriate databases and files
• Comply and ensure all safety policies, practices and procedures within the lab are followed; report all unsafe activities to supervisor
• Implement and maintain participant tracking databases and ensure that information is accurate and up-to-date; coordinate record keeping and manage the supply of study materials
• Assist in the hiring, training and supervising of undergraduate students; organize work schedule and assist in the evaluation of work upon completion
• Assist the Principal Investigator (PI) with the preparation of journal articles and presentations for conferences; conduct literature searches and provide relevant information to the PI
• Monitor the quantity of lab supplies and other office supplies; order lab supplies when necessary; maintain and organize data files
• Understand and comply with all policies, practices and procedures of the department and University, while working in a laboratory setting
• Engage in other study-related administrative duties, including making photocopies and completing and submitting forms and requests, as assigned by the PI
• Prepare and submit revisions and updates to the Institutional Review Board (IRB)
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

• Bachelor's Degree in Psychology, Biology, or closely related field, with significant Psychology coursework,
• Minimum of one year of prior psychological research experience is required.
• Occasional nights and weekends may be required for the purpose of conducting research.
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office suite, SPSS and other statistical software
• Ability to work as a member of team in a manner supportive of the department and University procedures, policies and goals;
• Ability to protect confidentiality of participant and college information;
• Ability to provide leadership to others through example and sharing of knowledge and skills;
• Ability to establish effective relationships with internal team members, research participants and community members;
• Ability to communicate with others in a courteous and helpful manner;
• Ability to interact with technical support staff to solve potential technical problems;
• Strong oral and written communication skills;
• Strong organizational skills;
• Strong statistical background.
