Health, Wellness, and Counseling Psychologist

Position Description:
Provides individual, couples and group counseling to university students and their family members; provides diagnostic assessment and psychotherapeutic services to students regarding problems relating to stress, developmental issues, career, academics, interpersonal concerns, and other mental health issues; conducts and evaluates psychoeducational workshop programs; consults with university personnel; and assists in departmental, divisional and university programs within the focus of student affairs.

Key Responsibilities:
• Provide counseling and mental health services that include brief and long-term individual, group counseling and assessment.
• Liaising with faculty and administrators to deliver the support services that underpin the mental health needs of the University’s Arabic speaking students.
• Offer campus outreach presentations and consultation.
• Maintain accurate clinical records.
• Provide 24 hour emergency on-call coverage on a rotational basis with two other clinically qualified staff members.
• Possess a high level of competency in spoken and written Arabic.
• Have a successful history and propensity for treating people of Middle Eastern cultures.
• An understanding of and capacity to respond to the needs of those clients who may feel more comfortable sharing their concerns with someone well-versed with their cultural background and language.
• Be able to affirm and validate the unique cultural context of presenting issues by students such as those related to societal expectations, family dynamics, and adjustment to an international student environment, procrastination, conflict resolution, and career planning.
• Expertise in suicide prevention, clinical assessment, and/or outreach programming strongly preferred.
• Excellent interpersonal communication and written skills are also essential as is the ability to work collaboratively within the department and with other campus offices.

Key Requirements:
• A degree in Clinical or Counseling Psychology, mental health counseling, or social work from an accredited program and internship is required. (Masters to Doctorate qualifications are desired). 
• Licensed or license-eligible as a Psychologist, Counselor, or Social Worker.
• Minimum of three years of experience in individual and group counseling, preferably in a college counseling center or with a college-age population.
