The Department of Psychology in the College of Humanities and Sciences at Virginia Commonwealth University is seeking applications for a tenure-track assistant professor position to begin August 2016. VCU is a premier urban, public research university that boasts a diverse student body and community-engaged and research-intensive designations. The position’s responsibilities are three-fold in the areas of research, teaching, and service. Research responsibilities include the maintenance of a high quality research program that includes evidence of success in publications and funding for area(s) of scholarly expertise. Teaching responsibilities will include courses at both the graduate and undergraduate level in her/his area of research specialization, providing support to the program’s core curriculum and general education requirements, and advising graduate students in their research and training. The position will also involve providing service to the department, College, and University.

Requirements for the position include a Ph.D. in psychology or a closely related field; an established research agenda and a clear potential for external funding, as appropriate, and potential for scholarship or creative expression to complement and expand existing expertise in the department; demonstrated experience and commitment working in and fostering diversity, especially with underrepresented ethnic minorities (e.g., African Americans, Latinos, American Indians, etc).; and a research program that will align with one of the department’s core strengths (health; community-based research; or work with youth and families) and could be located in any one of the department’s four doctoral programs: clinical (behavioral medicine or child/adolescent concentrations), counseling, health, or general experimental psychology (with concentrations in developmental and social psychology). Experience with interdisciplinary collaboration is desirable.
