Computer Science Postdoctoral Researcher in Natural Language Processing in Behavioral and Health Sciences, University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign

We are seeking to hire a postdoctoral researcher in the use of natural language for prediction of health, behavioral and social events. The researcher will help develop computer science methods and models to better understand communication and the effects of language in real world contexts, with particular attention to health outcomes. She or he will be housed at the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign, working with Cheng Zhai in Computer Science and Dolores Albarracin in Psychology. The project involves a wide network of collaborators at University of Illinois Chicago, Emory University, University of Pennsylvania, and John Hopkins University, as well as epidemiologists from state health departments.

The ideal candidate will have knowledge and experience in computational linguistics and applied machine learning. She or he will develop and code novel methods to leverage large datasets (i.e., billions of tweets), develop systems, and prepare research articles and reports. The position is for 2 years, renewable, with the opportunity to participate in other initiatives and apply for independent funding. The position entails great publication opportunities.
