TITLE OF POST: Lecturer below the bar in Psychology

LOCATION: University of Limerick

CONTRACT TYPE: Tenure Track (five year fixed term). During the term of the contract the successful applicant will have the opportunity to apply for tenure in accordance with the University's Policy and Procedures for Granting Multi-annual Status to Entry-level Academic Staff)

SALARY SCALE: €41,498 - €51,722 p.a. (Less 10% for new entrants to the Public Sector)

JOB DESCRIPTION
QUALIFICATIONS:
• Recognised undergraduate degree in psychology at 2:1 or higher.
• PhD in psychology or a related discipline is required.

OVERALL PURPOSE OF THE JOB:
The successful candidate is expected to:
• Teach core subjects at undergraduate and postgraduate level; including research methodologies with a particular emphasis on qualitative methods.
• Conduct research and publish in high quality academic peer reviewed journals in the specific research areas of the Faculty of Education & Health Science’s (EHS) strategic plan.
• Attract external research funding to support research in psychology.
• Undertake administrative tasks associated with an academic position.

DESCRIPTION:
Essential Requirements
The successful candidate must have:
• Recognised undergraduate degree in psychology at 2:1 or higher.
• PhD in psychology or related discipline.
• Excellent research potential in terms of high quality publications in scientific journals and potential for securing research funding.
• Publication record appropriate to the stage of career in areas linked to the research objectives of the EHS strategic plan.
• The ability to teach and supervise students in both the undergraduate and postgraduate curricula in psychology.
• Evidence of teaching experience in psychology in at least 2 core areas of psychology.
• Ability to teach research methods at undergraduate and postgraduate level, with specific evidence of teaching qualitative methodology.

Desirable Requirements
Preference may be given to applicants who can:
• Consolidate and augment the teaching, supervisory, and research profile of the Department of Psychology. A particular interest in research in applied and theoretical social psychology is welcomed.
• Demonstrate good teamwork and administrative skills.
