The Department of Psychology at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill seeks an individual for a Research Assistant Professor position in our Social Psychology Program. The duties of this position will be to assume primary responsibility for analyzing all data on an NIH-funded projects entitled "Affective and Genomic Mediators of Sustained Behavior Change" and “Promoting Cancer-related Behavior Change through Positive Emotions” led by Principal Investigator Barbara Fredrickson, and Co-Investigators Karen Grewen, Sara Algoe, and Keith Payne. Current and archival data emerge from longitudinal experimental designs with densely-repeated assessments spanning 24 months that test the psychological and biological effects of various contemplative practices.

Successful applicants will have substantial graduate-level training in statistics, experience working with psychological or human behavioral data, and be able to apply advanced data analysis techniques to explore change over time. Proficiency with longitudinal data analysis and structural equation modeling is a must. Critical data analytic techniques include hierarchical linear modeling, logistic regression, exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis, latent growth curves, path analysis, and techniques for handling missing data. Preference will be given to applicants who have experience screening and analyzing intensive repeated assessment data, the ability and motivation to learn dynamic modeling, and familiarity with substantive issues that may arise in modeling affective processes. The lab has used SAS and Mplus for data analysis in the past; candidates may prefer to work in different programs, but the ideal candidate would have sufficient familiarity with these programs (particularly SAS) to understand the data preparation work and models that have already been done.

This position will take the lead on preparing quantitative tables and figures, and writing results sections for academic presentations and peer-reviewed publications. Successful candidates must have excellent communication skills and be creative, highly motivated and able to work independently, with a demonstrated record of publishing complex statistical models and an interest in writing and executing grants.

Education Requirements:

Ph.D. in Social Psychology, Clinical Psychology, Health Psychology, Epidemiology, or related field, with substantial training in advanced statistics, or a Ph.D. in a statistical discipline (e.g., Quantitative Psychology, Biostatistics, Statistics) with experience working with psychological and human behavioral data.

Qualifications and Experience:

Advanced data analytic techniques. Experience working with longitudinal data in behavioral/social scientific studies.
