We seek a seasoned leader to be a steward of excellence in teaching and scholarship during an exciting time in the department’s development. The successful candidate will have experience in academic leadership (chair preferred), and a demonstrated record of excellence in teaching, scholarship and administration/service. The Department Chair is responsible for the successful fulfillment of all department duties, collaborates with university partners, leads the department in setting strategic goals, and serves on the Dean’s leadership team. This is an excellent opportunity for an established teacher-scholar interested in leading an already successful department to greater achievement. UNE is a dynamic institution, grounded in the liberal arts and excelling in the health sciences. It is located on the Southern Maine coast and in the metropolitan area of Portland, listed by Forbes as the number one most “livable city” in the U.S.

Department Description:

As the second largest department in the College of Arts and Sciences, we house 3 undergraduate majors (psychology, animal behavior, neuroscience) enrolling about 200 students. All of our programs are growing in student interest. We are a vibrant, collegial, and relatively young department, accomplished in teaching, scholarship and student advising/mentorship.

Preferred Qualifications:

Successful candidates will hold a Ph.D. in Psychology and be able to teach within the area of Developmental Psychology. Excellent organizational and intrapersonal skills are required. Experience working with interdisciplinary programs is desired.
