The Department of Psychology at the University of Pittsburgh is seeking to fill two tenure-track positions at the Assistant Professor level in the area of social psychology, pending budgetary approval. The ability to complement and extend the strengths of the Social Program is essential, as is a strong commitment to undergraduate teaching and graduate training. Candidates in three areas are particularly encouraged to apply. First, we seek candidates who study social processes relevant to health and are interested in interacting with faculty in our Biological-Health and Social programs. Second, we seek candidates whose work focuses on stereotyping, prejudice, intergroup relations, and other issues relevant to historically underrepresented minority groups. Third, for a joint position with the Learning Research and Development Center (LRDC), we seek candidates who study social and motivational underpinnings of learning and academic performance.

The Psychology Department (http://www.psychology.pitt.edu) is committed to excellence in research and in teaching at both the graduate and undergraduate levels. The Department has 36 tenure-stream faculty and houses five graduate training programs: Biological and Health, Clinical, Cognitive, Developmental, and Social, as well as cross-program training opportunities. The interdisciplinary nature of psychological science is reflected in both faculty research interests and training opportunities afforded to graduate students.

LRDC (http://www.lrdc.pitt.edu/) is a University Center for interdisciplinary (e.g., Psychology, Education, Computer Science) research whose work on human cognition and learning, effective schooling and training, and educational policy includes laboratory (behavioral, ERP, eye-tracking, MEG, and fMRI) and classroom settings. LRDC is committed to both basic and applied research that connects to the cognitive, motivational, and social bases of learning and to the use of research in improving education practice and policy.

Deadline for submitting applications is October 1, 2013.
