The Department of Psychology at Penn State is recruiting (rank open) a social psychologist to contribute to a departmental initiative on "context and culture." For information about the Department of Psychology, please see:

http://psych.la.psu.edu/

We are interested in applicants whose work examines the role of cultural and contextual factors in social psychological processes and outcomes, especially candidates whose work will link with research and outreach (by colleagues in psychology and across campus) that involves communities of various cultural, ethnic and socio-economic backgrounds. Possible areas of specialization include, but are not limited to, how aspects of culture and context affect self/identity, close relationships, affect, social perception, physiological functioning, or resiliency.

Rich opportunities exist for collaboration within the Department and across the campus. We are particularly interested in candidates who will contribute to existing strengths within the social area as well as connect with faculty and students in other areas in psychology. Applicants who could contribute to an overarching department initiative to enhance diversity and our understanding of diversity are particularly encouraged to apply. Contributions to departmental initiatives in neuroscience or translational research would also be welcome. Candidates are expected to have a record of excellence in research and teaching, and a history or promise of external funding. Review of applications will begin on October 15, 2012, and will continue until the position is filled.

Candidates should submit a letter of application including concise statements of research and teaching interests, a CV, at least three letters of recommendation, and selected (p)reprints. Electronic submission is strongly preferred; please submit materials at:

http://www.la.psu.edu/facultysearch/

If unable to submit electronically, mail materials to Social Faculty Search Committee – Box A, Department of Psychology, The Pennsylvania State University, University Park, PA 16802. Questions regarding the application process can be emailed to Judy Bowman, jak8@psu.edu, and questions regarding the position can be sent to Terri Vescio, vescio@psu.edu. We especially encourage applications from individuals of diverse backgrounds. Employment will require successful completion of background check(s) in accordance with University policies. Penn State is committed to affirmative action, equal opportunity and the diversity of its workforce.
