The Department of Psychology at Arizona State University invites applications for three (3) tenure-track Assistant Professor positions to begin August 2013. A research focus that addresses reciprocal relationships between mental and physical health in any of the following or combination of the following areas is desired: (1) Emotional and motivational mechanisms of health; (2) Developmental health mechanisms and trajectories at any life stage, and/or (3) Clinical processes involving comorbidity and specificity of mental and physical health problems.

In exceptional cases, early Associate-level candidates may be considered. Applicants from any area of specialization that builds on the department’s current strengths (e.g., clinical, social, developmental, Cognition-Action-Perception, behavioral neuroscience, human neuroscience, genetics) are encouraged to apply. Strong candidates will have research interests relevant to ASU’s strategic focus on health solutions, investigating psychological and behavioral mechanisms of chronic disease.

Successful candidates may conduct basic or applied research; will be expected to contribute to applied health promotion/disease prevention initiatives at the departmental and university level; and will have the opportunity to develop collaborations through strategic initiatives within ASU and with ASU’s established clinical partners including the Mayo Clinic and Phoenix Children’s Hospital (http://clinicalpartnerships.asu.edu/home), and with ASU’s highly-regarded Prevention Research Center. ASU is located in the Phoenix/Scottsdale metropolitan region and offers all of the amenities of a large urban/winter resort area.

Minimum requirements for all three positions include: (1) a Ph.D. in Psychology or closely related discipline; (2) evidence of potential to develop a strong research program with external funding; and (3) commitment to quality teaching at the graduate and undergraduate levels.

To apply, submit a cover letter, statements indicating research and teaching interests and experience, CV, and copies of up to three representative reprints/preprints. Application materials should be submitted as a single PDF document via email only to Linda Luecken, Chair, Health Search Committee, Department of Psychology, Arizona State University, at healthsearch@asu.edu. Applicants must also arrange for three letters of recommendation to be emailed directly by referees to healthsearch@asu.edu. Review of applications will begin on Friday, November 2, 2012; if not filled, every two weeks thereafter until the search is closed.

Arizona State University and the Department of Psychology encourage and support diversity among applicants and employees. ASU is an Affirmative Action/Equal Opportunity Employer. In line with the Arizona Board of Regents’ policy, a background check is required for employment.
