The Department of Psychology at North Dakota State University announces a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Health Psychology, broadly construed, beginning August 16, 2012. The ideal candidate would be able to contribute to our doctoral program in Health/Social Psychology. In addition, the ability to complement or contribute to our other doctoral programs in clinical science and visual/cognitive neuroscience is preferred. We offer a modest teaching load of 3 courses per year, and faculty are able to teach courses in their area of specialty.

The minimum qualifications for the position are: Ph.D. degree or near completion, evidence of research accomplishments, excellent potential for external funding, ability to teach courses in our curriculum, ability to interact effectively with colleagues and students, and effective oral and written communication skills.

The department is dedicated to supporting productive, nationally recognized research programs and providing quality instruction to students. All faculty members supervise graduate and undergraduate research, and direct graduate and undergraduate theses. We offer excellent research resources and competitive start-up packages, and will soon move into new office and laboratory space being constructed on the NDSU campus. Additional information about the department and NDSU is available at:

http://www.psych.ndsu.nodak.edu/

NDSU is located in Fargo-Moorhead (F-M), a pleasant, safe, and growing community of approximately 209,000. As the largest population center in the region, Fargo-Moorhead is a center for entertainment, finance, and medical services for a large geographic area including the state of North Dakota and northern Minnesota. Two universities (North Dakota State University and Minnesota State University Moorhead) and one private liberal arts college (Concordia College) are located in Fargo and Moorhead. The F-M area has a healthy economy (ND has a budget surplus), good public schools, low crime rates, ample shopping, local theatre and music companies, several art galleries, semi-professional baseball and hockey, and Division I intercollegiate athletics. Hector International Airport in Fargo is convenient and served by several major airlines. Sun, clear skies, and clean air predominate year round. Summers tend to be dry and very pleasant with occasional hot stretches. Winters are cold, though snowfall is moderate. Outdoor sports and activities are popular year round. Visiting nearby northern Minnesota lakes, canoeing, camping, cycling, softball, and soccer are popular in summer; winter pastimes include cross-country skiing, skating, and snowmobiling. The city has an excellent park system that includes several quality golf courses and bicycle/running paths along the Red River, which divides Fargo-Moorhead and becomes a ski trail during colder months. Fargo is an hour's drive from a major resort area in the Minnesota "lakes country" and two hours from scenic Itasca State Park, where you will find the headwaters of the Mississippi river. Central and western North Dakota offer beautiful hiking, camping, fishing, hunting, and related opportunities in the Badlands, national grasslands, and numerous river valleys. Winnipeg, Manitoba, is less than a four-hour drive to the north, and Minneapolis-St. Paul is an equal distance to the southeast.

To apply, submit a cover letter describing research and teaching interests, a CV, copies of representative publications, available summaries of teaching evaluations, and three letters of recommendation to http://jobs.ndsu.edu. Direct inquiries to Clayton Hilmert, Health Psychology Search Committee Chair, Department of Psychology, NDSU Dept 2765, PO Box 6050, Fargo ND 58108-6050, clayton.hilmert@ndsu.edu, (701) 231-5148. Applications will be reviewed beginning 14 November 2011 and continue until the position is filled. North Dakota State University is an AA / EOE and an NSF / ADVANCE institution.
