A 2-year NIH funded Postdoctoral position will become available in August/September 2010 at The Mind Research Network, to aid Dr. Matthew Shane's clinical affect neuroimaging research (fMRI and EEG) focused on the neurocognitive and neuroaffective abnormalities underlying substance-abuse, antisocial behavior, and psychopathy. Primary responsibilities will include analysis of existing structural, functional and electrophysiological datasets, and the authoring of scientific manuscripts for publication in high-tier journals. Current projects in the lab are focused on the integrity of error-monitoring, emotion-regulation, and empathic processing within incarcerated populations (substance abusers / psychopaths), and applicants with interests in these areas are particularly welcome to apply. The successful applicant will also have the opportunity to pursue his/her own fMRI/EEG projects, with scan time made available for these projects, particularly in the 2nd year of the position.
Applicants should have obtained their PhD in psychology, psychiatry or cognitive/affective neuroscience by the position's start date, and should have considerable experience with either fMRI or EEG data collection and analysis. Specific knowledge of SPM or EEGlab would be viewed particularly favorably. Forensic training, or previous research on substance abuse/psychopathy is not required, but would be welcome. Applicants must demonstrate exceptional interpersonal and written skills, be able to work in a dynamic and diverse research environment, and be able to show evidence of previous publishing success. Post-doctoral fellows at Mind are used to experiencing success in obtaining external support for their research, and the successful applicant will be expected to apply for such support.
