University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. The Departments of Psychology and Sociology invite applications for a tenured or tenure-track position at the Professor or Associate/Assistant Professor level to begin as early as July 1, 2010. All ranks are welcome. This recruitment is part of a major initiative supported by the state legislature to expand cancer research throughout the UNC campus. As such, it is a joint effort of the UNC College of Arts and Sciences and the Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center, a National Cancer Institute-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center. The primary appointment will be either in the Sociology or Psychology Department, depending on the applicant’s background. We are interested in scholars with new approaches to research in a wide range of areas at the intersection of behavioral and social sciences with cancer. Areas of focus may include prevention, diagnosis, treatment, care delivery, survivorship, social support, social networks, social inequality, and health behavior related to cancer, cancer risks, and their personal, societal, and economic impacts. This position includes a 12-month salary and a reduced teaching load. Candidates will be expected to exhibit a strong commitment to research funding and publication, teaching, and an affinity for work in a multidisciplinary, collaborative research environment.
