The School of Humanities and Social Sciences at Jacobs University Bremen invites applications for the part-time position (19,25 hrs/week) of two Research Associates (PhD positions).

Tasks

Professor Arvid Kappas is looking for two PhD students in the area of emotion psychology. Successful candidates will be employed in the context of a large scale integrating project funded by the European Commission within the 7th Framework Program (ICT Call 3; Science of complex systems for socially intelligent ICT):

CYBER-EMOTIONS: Collective Emotions in Cyberspace

The tasks involve primarily preparation, conducting, and analyzing experiments as well as administrative and logistical tasks associated with the CYBER EMOTIONS work package at Jacobs University. Specifically, this involves measuring emotional responses while participants read or produce Internet contents or interact, in real-time, online with other users. Dependent variables involve a multilevel approach that employs self-reports as well as psychophysiological responses (facial EMG, electrodermal activity, heart rate) using Biopac recording equipment. Requirements

Masters degree in psychology or equivalent; academic excellence; interest in socio-affective processes and strong methodological knowledge as regards experiments and statistical analyses. Preference will be given to candidates with experience in measuring psychophysiological reactions and/or programming.

Final negotiations with the EC are pending at present but shall be finalized shortly. The project is scheduled to begin in February 2009. The total duration for each contract will be 3 years.
