Research Analyst

Subprocess: Research & Analytical Services

The Research Analyst will perform complex research on matters that relate to business, administrative, operational, and/or public policy issues. The Research Analyst will apply SAS programming and other tools in order to maintain existing reports; develop new reports to meet internal and external customer ad hoc requests; analyze TG's guarantee, delinquency, and default portfolios; and write occasional policy papers for industry-wide audiences. The Research Analyst will participate in or sometimes lead research project teams.

Education Required
Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major work in business administration, public administration, government, economics, computer science, mathematics, sociology, statistical analysis or research methodology. Six years of experience in the student loan industry can substitute for the four-year degree.

Experience/skills Required
A minimum of three years writing syntax in SAS or a comparable statistical software programming language. Three years experience writing research reports is required, although two years may be substituted by two years of graduate school experience or three years experience in the student loan industry. The applicant must have strong research and writing skills; knowledge of statistical concepts, and research methodology. Knowledge of MS Excel.

Preferred Qualifications
Graduate training in a related field strongly preferred. SAS programming experience. Knowledge of SQL. Experience working with delinquency or default portfolios. Experience processing and merging multimillion record data files. Ability to handle data merges. Ability to operationalize customer requests into programming logic. Experience building predictive models. Experience in giving presentations. Experience working in or with institutions of higher education and/or the banking industry. An understanding of the legislative process; and the ability to interpret statutes, regulations and rules.
