Children’s Hospital’s Child Development Unit anticipates making a faculty appointment at the Instructor or Assistant Professor level at the General Pediatrics Harvard Medical School. Applicants should be conducting cognitive science or cognitive neuroscience research.

The ideal candidate will have a Ph.D. in neurosciences or developmental psychology: basic and practical knowledge of and experience with psychophysiologic measures (e.g., saliva cortisol assessment, heart rate and vagal tone); knowledge of and experience with statistical analysis and programs; IRB certified; cooperative team player; problem solver and independent. This project will be career building. The individual will be expected to write complimentary grants to the main project.

The primary aims of this grant are to: (1) evaluate the stability of individual differences in infants’ behavior (positive and negative engagement, self-regulatory behaviors), vagal tone and cortisol response assessed during a social stress, maternal Face-to-Face Still-Face Paradigm over a 3-or a 6-month time interval; (2) evaluate infants’ memory for the still-face over the 3- or 6-month time interval; and (3) evaluate the relation between infant reactivity and memory.

This is a 100% grant funded position for four years from the National Institute of Health / National Institute of Child Health Development and National Science Foundation. The project is housed in the Child Development Unit at Children's Hospital, Boston. The P.I. of the grant is Ed Tronick and Co-Investigators are Marjorie Beeghly and Charles Nelson.
